A year to celebrate, and a year to remember

2026 marks 80 years since Michael John Flooring began in 1946. That is eight decades of helping customers choose flooring they will love, fitted with care by people who take pride in doing the job properly.

From 1946 to today

Our roots are family-run, and our history is proudly local. The company grew from those early days into a dedicated flooring retailer, including the move to 188 Narborough Road in 1959 and decades of steady progress through new premises, new team members, and an ever-growing range. 

Over the years, we have grown from a small family business into one of Leicestershire’s best-known independent flooring specialists, still built on the same values that started it all in 1946. 

Today, we welcome customers throughout Leicestershire and beyond, helping people choose flooring that suits their home, their lifestyle, and how they actually live day to day. From carpets and rugs to wood and luxury vinyl, our focus stays the same: friendly advice, quality products, and fitting carried out with real care. 

Remembering a key part of our story

This anniversary year comes with mixed emotions. We were saddened to share last month that Michael John Molloy, the founder’s son, passed away shortly before Christmas.

Simon Manley, Managing Director, commented, “Although Michael John Molloy had stepped back from the day-to-day running of the business, retiring in 2000, he was part of the business from a young age, and his contribution helped shape what Michael John Flooring became. As we mark 80 years, we do so with genuine appreciation for his life and work, and with our condolences to his family and friends”.
