Manufacturer in Focus: Brintons Carpet

As Leicestershire’s largest independent flooring retailer, we like to think that we know a thing or two about quality flooring. This month we will be showcasing Brintons; one of the many top brands we stock at Michael John Flooring.

Having been established in 1783, Brintons have a lot of pedigree attached to their name. They’ve supplied carpets to royal residences and invented the Axminster Loom, but their claims to fame don’t end there.

Brintons carpeted the staircase of the London St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which, as well as being a landmark in its own right, was the location for the Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabe’ music video. Punk and fashion icon Vivienne Westwood has created a range of dresses made from Brintons carpets. And, despite worldwide renown, their carpets are still made in Kidderminster – where they started out over two centuries ago. So when you buy a Brintons carpet from us, you’re really buying a woollen slice of British heritage.

Talking of wool, Brintons carpets are so popular that the wool from one in nine British sheep is used to make a Brintons carpet. Chances are, if you drive through Leicestershire to get to one of our show rooms, you’ll pass at least one sheep who’s donated their wool to your new carpet!

In recent years, Brintons have worked with the design company Timorous Beasties to create their ‘Timorous Beasties Collection.’ No matter how many times you read that name, your internal monologue will always adopt a Scottish accent to say it. Their designs have previously been featured in the V&A in London and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York, so it should really be an honour to have their carpet in your home.
