About Us

Established in 1946, Michael John Flooring is now Leicestershire’s premier flooring retailer

Michael John started as a family business in 1946, with Michael John Molloy, at age 11, helping his father sell a range of items, including shoes, clothing, and watches. A move to new premises in 1959 saw Michael John Carpets born, focusing on selling carpets and rugs. 

Michael John Molloy commented, "When my father started the flooring business, his vision was to offer high-quality flooring and a high-quality service. I'm pleased to say these core values have carried on to the present day".

After a compulsory purchase by the council our original store is demolished.

Michael John leaves their original store and moves to a new showroom at 188 Narborough Road and focuses on selling carpets and rugs.

1978

Michael John Molloy takes over the business after the death of his parents. He appoints Tony Clare and Graham Morris to the Board of Directors.

Simon Manley joins as a ‘Saturday lad’ and helps out in the showroom as the company continues to grow. Simon goes on to study retail business management for the next three years.

Michael John expands its premises, purchasing 190 Narborough Road

Mark Lucas joins the team.

The 1990s

Rapid expansion means key appointments are made including David Preston in 1993. Michael John is recognised as one of the UK’s leading flooring retailers, winning master store awards.

2000

Michael John Molloy retires, but remains as chairman. Simon Manley is made managing director and appointed to the board. Mark Lucas and David Preston are promoted as managers.

Ashley Parsons joins Michael John Flooring as an installer, later becoming installations manager and a partner in 2022.

Expansion continues with the opening of a warehouse facility in Enderby.

Tony Clare and Graham Morris retire as Company Directors. Simon Manley celebrates 25 years at Michael John Flooring.

Oadby store moves to larger premises on The Parade, in the shared showroom 'Oadby House', bringing together Michael John, Sherwin Hall Kitchens and Albert Henry Interiors.

Michael John Flooring recognised as the 'Customer Services Contractor of the Year' at Davidsons Homes Awards. Following up on the “Davidsons Homes Subcontractor of the Year" award win in 2020.
